About the Nashua Senior Activity Center

The Nashua Association for the Elderly, Inc. was incorporated in 1978 and initially managed as a “pilot project” by the Greater Nashua Jaycees, with four members actively involved and serving as officers accepting the challenge and responsibility for operating a “ Senior Center” in Nashua, serving senior citizens in the Greater Nashua area. Funding was applied for and received from the NH State Council on Aging, while programs and services were established to make the program self-sustaining. Fire destroyed the facility housing the senior Center in 1981 and community efforts resulted in a capital drive to build a new facility, which the Senior Activity Center occupied from November 1983 to June 2006, at which time we moved into our newly expanded facility.

We Are Self-Supporting

The Center is 90% self-supporting through membership fees, annual membership appeal, innovative programming and fund raising. The Center is also available for groups and organizations to rent on evenings and weekends when not in use for senior programs. The remainder comes from local grants and donations.

Our Mission

The mission of the Nashua Senior Activity Center is and always has been “to promote the well being of senior citizens by offering social, cultural, recreational and educational programs, to assist participants in remaining active in the community”.

Wellness is a priority and those attending activities at the Center benefit from improved health, mental and physical. They also gain from increased self-worth, providing an inner acceptance and the knowledge of still being a valuable part of their community.

Programs and Services

The Center provides a variety of programs and services that complement our mission. Our health classes (yoga, tai chi, and aerobics), clinics (hearing, vision, foot, and blood pressure) and related seminars and featured speakers provide a much-needed service in one convenient location.

In addition to health-related activities and services, the Center offers assistance with Medicare, prescription drug programs, income-tax preparation, checkbook balancing/budgeting, 55 Alive driver refresher courses, and one-time financial crisis help.

Educational opportunities abound at the Nashua Senior Activity Center. Our members enjoy classes in various languages, computers, photography, dance and many other areas of interest.

Many recreational opportunities are made available to our members. Multi-day trips offer a chance to travel to destinations like the National Parks, Hawaii, and Ireland for a discounted rate. Popular single day trips to places such as Foxwoods and the Wang Center allow members to experience world-class entertainment while leaving the driving to someone else.

Our members are also afforded the chance to give back to the community. From knitting bonnets for newborn babies at local hospitals to recycling eyeglasses in cooperation with the Lions Club, members experience the joy and satisfaction of helping others.

ServiceLink, a statewide network of community-based connections for elders, adults with disabilities and their families, maintains a resource center within our facilty. Please visit the ServiceLink website to learn more about the valuable assistance this organization provides to seniors and their families.
